Hostel Zappio took its name from the name of Zechariah Zappio, who was a merchant, founder of the library of St. John, the sponsor and builder of the church. After the death of his only, beloved daughter decided to transfer wealth to charity and help the poor. Zechariah's house is an authentic antique Zappio house. Its Gothic walls were completely rebuilt in 1646 and stylized baroque. The building originally served as the rectory. As one of the few survivors in the bombardment of World War II. After the war he was transferred to the Order of Dominican Sisters. He currently serves as a unique hostel in which to feel unique, theatrical atmosphere of the old town of Gdansk. Their guests especially appreciate the bourgeois atmosphere of the historic place, fantastic location in the center, a garden with views of the St. John Gothic church walls, who functions as a cultural center and a newly opened cafe bar. In St. John's Pub & Cafe offers a truly friendly atmosphere, because all treated-as unique and individual. Cafe is located in the building, which still retains its own individual style and timeless design, while the interior provokes thought and longer stay.
