Eating out in Gdansk

Gdansk has a good range of restaurants to choose from.  Professional foodies are not yet toasting Poland as a mecca of haute cuisine, but given the Poles' creative bent, a renaissance in Polish cooking may not be as far off as it sounds. In terms of sheer variety and quality, your options have already increased a hundred fold over the last few years, and whether it's classic Polish fare that you're after, some international spice, or simply a trusty old milk-bar where you can pick up a tasty cutlet for next to nothing, you won't be stuck in the Tri-City:  Gdansk, Gdynia and Sopot.

If you are looking for a high-level spot maybe you should check one of those restaurants:

1) Gdanska, Sw. Ducha 16 Street - An entertaining place to visit. The rooms are filled with antiques according to the principle less is not more, and the waiters are dressed like in the old days.
2) Filharmonia Restaurant, 1 Olowianka Street in Philharmonia Baltica building - Excellent "molecular" cuisine in lovely building with great view on the river.
3) Fellini, Moltawa area, near Hilton - High-quality Italian cuisine and top-notch service.

If you are looking for a mid-range spot maybe you should check one of those restaurants:

1) El Paso, 7 Stary Rynek Oliwski Street – Mexican restaurant
2) Goldwasser, on the waterfront just behind Dlugi Targ - Wonderful, hearty Polish fare at good prices. End the meal with a Goldwasser Liqueur. Vodka based, creamy and has very small pieces of gold leaf in the drink.
3) Swojski Smak, 25/27 Heweliusza Street - Good value, nice food, in a nicely decorated venue.
4) Soda Cafe, 103/104 Chmielna Street - Tasteful orange interiors and very tasty food.

If you are looking for a budget place you should visit:

1) Bar Neptun, at the middle of Dluga Street - Milk Bar serving hearty polish food at affordable prices.

Don't forget about  buying fish on Motlawa River bank, which costs around 25 PLN.
