Gdansk Dominican Fair is the largest and most popular open-air event in Poland. Its tradition is dated back to the Middle Age – the 13th century. On Fairs more than 400 ships of all sorts of goods called a harbour in Gdansk. Among goods were French and Spanish wines, silk, jam, spices, tin, English cloth, amber, Czech glass, gingerbread and Russian fur. Today, you can buy, bargain, look for treasures. Circus performers, acrobats, jugglers and actors came from everywhere. This place was and is still full of life and colours, almost everywhere something happens.
Today, the grand opening of the Fair is announced to the world by a hundred strokes in the largest and heaviest (over 3 tons) drum of the world. It is a sign that the power over the city is taken by merchants. The streets start to fill by people. The symbol of Gdansk Dominican Fair is a crimson rooster. An impressive number of trade stands tempts its diversity. The craftsmen, artists and antique dealers offer their poducts. You will find there an abundance of flavors - pastries, cheeses, meats, produced to accord with traditional recipes. The interesting point of the event are concerts with Polish artists. Several hundred hours of culture and entertainment accompanies this event. Among these events are festivals, concerts, fireworks and laser shows, parades and street parades, rock concerts, chamber music concerts and organ concerts, sport events.
Fair St. Dominika is visited by millions guests every year. Some of them come for a special event to experience something memorable and unusual.
