The German camp Stutthof for civilians was established on 2 September 1939, then turned into a special labour camp and finally a concentration camp. Some 125,000 prisoners from 13 countries of Europe were kept here. 85 000 were killed. It was the first German camp on Polish territory and the last to be liberated. Now the camp site is the State Stutthof Museum, comprising a gas chamber, crematorium four shacks for the living quarters and the SS watchtower.
